FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Who will I see for my treatments?

All consultations and treatments are performed by Dr James Jack

  • How do wrinkle relaxing injections work?

These involve injecting Botulinum Toxin (botox) into targeted muscles. Botulinum is a naturally occurring substance produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. It works by blocking the release of a chemical that creates nerve impulses. This relaxes the muscles and temporarily stops them contracting, preventing early wrinkles from forming or getting worse, also reducing the appearance of established wrinkles. Skin appearance in the treated area is visibly improved.

  • Is botulinum toxin safe?

Botulinum toxin has been approved for cosmetic use since 2002. In that time it has been demonstrated as a very safe and effective treatment, with very few side effects. At our initial consultation we will take a detailed medical history, including any medication you are taking, to make sure it is appropriate for you. We will also gain your informed consent before performing procedures, detailing the benefits and risks of any treatments you may have.

  • What are fillers?

Dermal fillers are used to filler out deeper lines, typically in the mid and lower thirds of the face. They can be used throughout the body. They are based on hyaluronic acid, which is naturally present in our skin. They provide an immediate result with only a few small injections, stimulating collagen production and increasing hydration. This results in more youthful skin with improved volume. They can also be dissolved if a patient is unsatisfied with their results.

  • Do wrinkle relaxing injections and fillers hurt?

You may feel a small scratch and slight pressure as it is injected; we use very fine needles to minimise any discomfort. Most people tolerate the injections very well without any analgesia, however, we can tailor the experience to your needs, using ice, and topical local anaesthetic to numb the area to minimise potential discomfort. For certain filler procedures we apply numbing cream 20 minutes before the procedure. Our fillers also contain local anaesthetic. We also carry fillers without anaesthetic, for those with allergies.

For lip augmentation, we use topical numbing cream applied 20 minutes beforehand. For safety reasons, we do no administer dental blocks: In the extremely rare case of vascular occlusion, these blocks can mask the symptoms which would allow us to promptly diagnose and treat this.

  • Are there any potential negative side effects of botulinum toxin?

The vast majority of people do not experience any side effects. Some individuals may experience mild tenderness and pain around injection sites, and occasionally headaches, which should improve within 48 hours. Rarely, drooping around the eyebrows or eyelids can occur, which will subside within a few weeks.

During your consultation, before performing any procedures, we will discuss the potential benefits, risks and side effects. There will be plenty of time to go through any questions you may have and discuss your concerns before deciding to proceed. We carry out all procedures with a total commitment to safety, and monitor you post procedure. We will follow you up with a free face to face appointment to assess your response to treatment.
